Welcome to the SSCL

Welcome to the new website for the Space Systems and Controls Lab (SSCL) at
Iowa State University. This website contains information on the various
projects that we do here in the lab. From sea to space, our lab has
built and tested various platforms for both academic and scientific
missions. We have a long history of carrying out a large variety of
missions and well as supporting the academic needs of our students.

SSCL News

This summer has been quite busy for the SSCL.  We have been keeping pretty busy with a number of projects.  

 

Iowa State Team takes 4th place in University Mars Rover Challenge

Keegan Gartner working on the the rover The ISU team that consisted of members from the SSCL and the Aerospace
Robotics Lab took 4th place in the URC.  Oregan State University took
1st place, followed by University of Nevada - Reno, and then by York
University.

 

 

 

HABET Team continues reserach into wheat rust

Picture of the HABET payloadThe SSCL HABET team has been working with Dr. Forrest Nutter over in Plant Pathology into the study of wheat rust and the spores that cause it.  This year, on top of using tethered balloons to collect the spores, the HABET team has also been using IR photography to monitor the health of the plants as the disease spreads.  This project will continue into July as additional flights are used to monitor and continue to collect additiona data.
