Projects

American Student Moon Orbiter (ASMO)

ASMO is a new project that is being started by NASA. The goal is to launch a satellite into orbit around the Moon. We currently setting up teams now for this project, so please check back here for more information.

Autonmous Jeep (AJ)

AJ is a RC Jeep that was donated to the lab from an alumni. It is a basic RC Jeep with not a lot of features...yet. Our plan is to replace the electronics in the Jeep with a new control system and equip it with a GPS system. The goal is to have the Jeep to roam around outside without any external control. This is Phase I. Later we hope to add additional Jeeps so they can drive in a formation.

CubeSAT Project

CubeSAT is program started by CalPoly for launching cube satellites into orbit around the Earth. We are currently now exploring getting a cubesat launched. Please stay tuned here for more information.

CySAT

CySAT is an ongoing project that involves working on and launching a satellite into space. Currently, there are two projects that are active in CySAT. CubeSAT which launches a small cube satellite into orbit around the Earth. And ASMO (American Student Moon Orbiter) which is a new project being developed by NASA. That project will have students launch a satellite into orbit around the moon.

Flight And Logistics Control

FALCON is the software that was developed here at the SSCL for the Flight tracking, prediction and control of the HABET spacecraft.  Before FALCON, the SSCL used an earlier program called Flight Console.  However, due to hardware changes and issues with the older software, it was decieded an new software package needed to be created.  FALCON is the result of that re-work of the Flight Console software

High Altitude Balloon Experiments in Technology (HABET)

HABET is an ongoing project that has been part of the SSCL for over 10 years. We have flown over 100 flights all with great success. We have flown as high as 118,000 feet, and have flown experiments from collecting weather data to studying the effects of micro gravity in worms.

HABET continues to play a key role in many of the projects here at the SSCL. If interested, please contact us to sign up for a HABET mailing list.

Iowa State Student Moon Orbiter (ISSMO)

The Iowa State Student Moon Orbiter is a student run project under the SSCL.  The goal of the group is to send a satellite to the moon that will achieve an eliptical orbit.

LABET Project

Low Altitude Balloon Experiments in Technology. LABET is a testbed for controls and other equipments using much smaller and cheaper latex balloons. This platform is able to fly indoors with work being done currently to have it fly outdoors as well.

UAV Project

UAV project involving helicopters and other platforms.
